Who We Are

For more than a decade UC Links has been active as a collaborative network of university and community partners. This partnership operates after-school program sites that extend access to quality educational resources and activities for K-12 youth from underserved communities throughout California.

In 2009-10, UC Links programs were led by 23 faculty from 8 University of California campuses, 2 California State University campuses and one independent college. The UC Links office at UC Berkeley coordinates the statewide network and works to secure core funding and ensure program accountability.  For more information about the statewide office and staff, click here.

K-12 youth:

UC Links primarily works with underserved youth from diverse California communities. In 2008-09, UC Links served 3503 pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade (pre-K-12) youth (of the 3273 students whose grade level was reported, 78.2% were in grades pre-K-8 and 21.8% were in grades 9-12). Of the 3298 youth whose ethnicity was reported, 60.0% were Latino, 18.9% African American, 6.2% Southeast Asian or Asian, 11.8% White, 3.6% Native Hawaiian/other Pacific Islander, and 3.6% Native American. Although 29.7% of UC Links participants were reported as English language learners, a larger proportion come from homes where a language other than English is spoken.

College Students:

UC Links also engages university students who participate by taking UC Links courses at their college campuses. These practicum courses place them at UC Links sites where they guide preK-12 youth in a variety of learning activities. In 2008-09, 1082 undergraduates and 66 graduate students from 11 university and community college campuses participated at UC Links sites.
