Angela Booker appointed as Eighth College Provost at UC San Diego

The UC Links statewide office is thrilled to share the outstanding news that Associate Professor Angela Booker has been appointed as Eighth College Provost at UC San Diego. 

Angela  has been a member of the Communication faculty for the last 10 years. Her scholarly work explores the intersection between communication, learning, community engagement, social justice and undoing structural racism. She is co-editor of the book, “Power and Privilege in the Learning Sciences: Critical and Sociocultural Theories of Learning,” with Indigo Esmonde, and has published extensively on the topics of learning theory and technology, civic practice and engagement, and social change. She is an active, long-time member of the Democracy Lab in the Department of Communication and is also the co-director of the Black Studies Project.


Angela has also been an active member, contributor and Principal Investigator of UC Links, partnering with the Town and Country Learning Center to co-develop and sustain the empowering and impactful program “Democracy Lab 2.0.”Democracy Lab is a community-based multimedia program that connects P-12 age students with university undergraduates  in media co-production projects. This collaborative work explores how to co-design experiences that put tangible, immediate practices for change in the hands of young people and families.
