Congratulations are in order for a number of UC Links’ people and programs!

Charles Underwood, UC Links Executive Director, has been awarded the Dr. Winston C. Doby Impact Award from the UC Office of the President. The award is given annually to two exceptional UC professionals chosen by colleagues in recognition of their individual commitment to improving educational opportunities for diverse California students. This award recognizes Charles’ unwavering dedication to student access, advocacy, and social justice. There will be a luncheon in his honor at the College Access and Preparation Forum in San Diego (May 8, 2019).

UC Links inaugural program La Clase Mágica (LCM), founded by Olga Vásquez (UC San Diego) and community partners in the 1980s, was recognized by its community college partner, Mira Costa College, for the program’s ongoing support and partnership with the Volunteer Center. LCM will be honored at the Celebration of Service: Extraordinary Experiences recognizing campus and community partnerships, and students who have had extraordinary experiences in service learning and volunteering. Congratulations to Olga and her partners at LCM.

UC Links Principal Investigator Sue Cronmiller (UC Irvine), was honored by the Orange County Department of Education at their Language Learner Celebration and recognized for her outstanding contributions to supporting language learners. Sue was nominated for this recognition by the school that she has partnered with for over a decade, El Sol Science and Arts Academy in Santa Ana. The award recognizes her many years of work on behalf of English language learners.
